The Global Relationship Management teams of Corporate Banking (CIB) aim to put HSBC, in its entirety, to work for each of our clients. Deployed in 50 countries and territories around the world these teams work closely with sector and product specialists from across our business, taking advantage of our international presence to provide tailored solutions to key corporate and institutional clients that require complex, international financial services. We already work with over 1,400 major corporate clients and our portfolio is expanding rapidly.
The expansion of CIB creates opportunities for experienced Relationship Managers to join our CIB team here in Hong Kong. Assigned a portfolio of existing corporate relationships, these professionals are expected to manage and develop business in specialist industry sectors, providing top-class service and maintaining sound credit quality.
Investment Banking provides strategic advice to chief executives and the boards of the world's largest corporations and governments around the globe. Our advice covers mergers and acquisitions, capital raising, divestitures, corporate restructuring, stock exchange listings, privatisations and capital restructuring.
Through a network of offices across the world, with regional hubs in London, Paris, New York, Hong Kong and Singapore, we can combine local knowledge with international expertise. We are now positioned very strongly alongside other major investment banks and have over 400 investment bankers working on some of the biggest deals worldwide. In fact, HSBC advised on five of the 10 largest global deals announced in the first half of 2006 and was the only bank to advise on all four of the largest deals in Europe during this period. Our deals are often cross-border, and we have developed a healthy global deal pipeline.
Investment Banking works across both regions and industries within our Sector and Product teams. In our Sector teams, the focus is on cultivating client relationships, idea generation and transaction origination, liaising with regional advisory groups across the globe and providing input to the execution of transactions. Our industry-specific sector coverage currently reaches consumer retail, financial institutions, healthcare, real estate, financial sponsors, global industries group, global finance companies and resources and energy. For our offices the work is predominately transaction-based with focus on execution for both domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions and equity capital markets mandates.
A key element of our growth strategy of the last few years has been to hire outstanding bankers from a range of market-leading investment banks and top business schools, and this has created a solid foundation from which to develop future growth using HSBC's size and geographical reach. Now, we are concentrating on organic growth, leadership development and campus recruitment to populate our banking franchise. Join us and you will have the opportunity to work alongside some of the best in the business.
Global Markets offers exposure to some of the world's largest financial institutions, government agencies, hedge funds, reserve managers and corporate clients; and to the full spectrum of capital markets products and services.
Global Markets is responsible for all traded market (forex, interest rates, credit and equities) services to supranational clients, central banks, corporates, institutional investors, financial institutions and other market participants worldwide. We are a global business, giving clients a platform for trading and distributing the full spectrum of capital markets products and services. These range from vanilla investment products through to structured products and customised over-the-counter derivative instruments.
Our research capabilities fall under two broad headings: macro research, where teams of economists and analysts around the world analyse macro-economic developments and key trends in financial markets, servicing clients directly and supporting our sales and trading desks; and sector and company research, which analyses major industries from a truly international perspective, looking at important themes affecting different companies around the world and providing key input to our sector sales and trading strategy teams.
