Induction
A series of orientation activities designed to familiarise you with the new environment and prepare you for your first projects and attachments.
Core Placements
Rotations with core Asia-Pacific Finance functions aimed at developing fundamental technical skills and knowledge. Four core attachments, each of six months duration, represent opportunities to take on the challenges of real functional business roles (two of these placements will be taken within the Chief Accounting Office). Finance Specialists will be expected to take an active role within the division and will be assigned tasks primarily designed to build a strong foundation of technical accounting skills.
Hong Kong Finance
Hong Kong Finance is responsible for local Group financial and regulatory reporting, as well as control over the general ledger and overseeing the accounting process. Finance Specialists will join the Reporting, Compliance and Control team within Hong Kong Finance as one of their Core Placements.
Management Information, Planning and Analysis
Management Information, Planning and Analysis provides information to senior management and business managers in customer and product groups with respect to business analytics. It is also responsible for management information systems development, the planning process, and reviews of business results and cases.
Chief Accounting Office
The Chief Accounting Office is primarily responsible for the regional production of financial accounts and the reporting of financial results. The department also provides guidance with respect to accounting policies and their application, and is responsible for providing accounting opinion for consideration as part of the due diligence process for new products and business acquisitions.
Finance Specialists will undertake two of their four Core Placements within the Chief Operating Office, one with our Regulatory Reporting regional team and another with our Consolidation regional team.
Asset and Liability Capital Management
The Asset and Liability Capital Management team oversees regional asset, liability and capital management, as well as regulatory development, liquidity initiatives and due diligence on acquisition targets. They actively contribute to business growth and the profitability of the Bank within our chosen risk appetite.
Tax
The Tax team is primarily responsible for the planning, management and control of the tax charges and risks of the Group and our businesses across the Asia-Pacific region. They also provide tax-related advice, support and management to Group acquisition and restructuring initiatives to ensure tax efficient outcomes.
SOX and Finance Governance
The SOX and Finance Governance team implements SOX compliance across the Asia-Pacific region, including risk assessment, regional coordination, documentation, and KPMG liaison, through to sign-off by CEO/CFO. They are responsible for regional financial control oversight including reconciliation and FIM compliance.
Accounting Policies
The Accounting Policies team provides advice and guidance throughout the Asia-Pacific region to ensure that the accounting treatment of specific transactions and financial reporting in general is in line with both external and internal financial reporting guidance. They carry out the technical phases of the implementation of new International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), as well as monitoring and participating in IFRS developments and delivering IFRS training.
Overseas Attachment
A placement with a core business area in the Asia-Pacific region offering regional exposure from a local perspective and opportunities to transfer skills and knowledge acquired in Hong Kong to other countries. Gain hands-on experience of how our regional Finance functions operate and support our local businesses at the country level, along with the opportunity to continue to build a valuable network of business contacts around the Asia-Pacific region.

HSBC offers comprehensive mentoring and ongoing support at every turn through our structured development schemes. Participants will be assigned a mentor to provide coaching and guidance throughout the programme, augmented by a line mentor in each attachment to facilitate technical learning.

Networking and Events
Regular networking events over the course of the programme will provide you with opportunities to connect and build relationships with local and regional senior management.
Future
In the years immediately following the 36 months of the programme, you will move into a Subject Matter Expert (SME) Contributor or First Line Manager role. Progression beyond this will involve moving to a Senior SME Manager position followed by a more senior role as Lead SME Contributor or Department Head.
