HSBC Sichuan earthquake relief

In the wake of the devastating earthquake on 12 May 2008, HSBC has raised a total of HK$220 million to support the Hong Kong Red Cross, representing the single biggest donation ever received by the charity for disaster relief. The sum included donations from HSBC's own charitable foundation, HSBC's customers and employees as well as the general public from Hong Kong and 13 other countries or territories.

Two years after the disaster, up to 400,000 people have benefited from projects supported by the donation. Today, reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts are still on-going.

What the beneficiaries say

"Suffering from disaster is a misfortune. However, I am grateful to have the unfailing support from my family, the guidance from the professionals in the Prosthetic and Orthotic Centre, as well as the care received from many strangers."
