To coordinate its extensive community support programmes in Hong Kong and mainland China, HSBC established the Hongkong Bank Foundation, a charitable trust funded by endowment and ongoing contributions from the Bank.
Since it was established in 1981, the Foundation has contributed more than HKD1 billion to charitable causes. Its principal interests are in the areas of education, community welfare, environmental protection and charitable projects enhancing links between the HKSAR and the Mainland.

The work of the Foundation is also supported by HSBC employees who individually and collectively donate tens of thousands of hours of their own time each year to help in community.
