Making a difference through continuous community empowerment

HSBC has long been a devotee in community investment helping individuals in need, developing their potentials and promoting an inclusive society through its donation and its volunteers. The HSBC Volunteers, comprising of senior executives and employees, have been keen supporters of community services. In 2008, over 580,000 Hong Kong people including children, youth, elderly, the disadvantaged and ethnic minorities benefitted from HSBC's diverse education, environment and community programmes.

Back in 1981, the Hongkong Bank Foundation (HBF) was set up to meet unmet needs of the community. The HBF encompasses various social welfare programmes, with 75 per cent of community giving channeling into education and environment. It supports other disadvantaged groups as well for social integration assistance.

In addition to funding large projects, the Foundation also supports small local community projects through its District Community Programme (DCP). Since its inception in 1992, it has contributed to more than 6,500 community service projects in the territory helping people at grassroot level.
