HKCSS-HSBC Social Enterprise Business Centre 1st anniversary

The HKCSS-HSBC Social Enterprise Business Centre (SEBC) celebrated its first anniversary and launched the "Hao Hao SE", a creative social enterprise trading platform targeting corporations and their staff for products and services trial in 11 November 2009.

  • Some 100 HSBC colleagues are among the force of 610 Social Angels who are professionals from over 200 companies to help over 30 social enterprises develop a more sustainable business model, establish a broader business network and generate more revenue.
  • Organised workshops, lectures and events, which so far have attracted over 3,000 participants, to share the concept of social enterprise.
  • Showcased over 300 products and services provided by over 60 social enterprises through its SE-Mart website; organised various marketing projects to help social enterprises boost sales within a year's time.
  • Nurtured new social projects through its consultation services, such as developing a vegetarian restaurant with the Hong Kong Movie Stars Sports Association Charities and the Silence Association, thereby assisting the hearing and speech impaired, as well as the retired actors and actresses to seek employment.
  • 20 consultants from McKinsey & Co spent eight months to develop a new Social Impact Assessment Tool which will be launched soon. It will serve as a reference and be available for trail run by social enterprises.

"With strong promotion by HKSAR government and all sectors of society, the public has gained a deeper understanding on social enterprises. The success of a social enterprise is not limited to the enterprise itself, but it can also contribute to promote a culture that helps improving Hong Kong."

Florence Hui
Under Secretary for Home Affairs, HKSAR Government

"I have enrolled as Social Angel of SEBC since launch and devoted over 30 hours in supporting a social enterprise which promotes fair trade by helping them on cost control, market and product development aiming to increase sales and generate revenue. I am pleased that the Bank has offered this opportunity for me to learn and contribute more to the community using my knowledge and experience."
