HSBC Share-to-Care Volunteer Campaign

Over 800 HSBC colleagues and their families joined forces with some 20,000 volunteers from the community to support HSBC Share-to-Care Volunteer Campaign through visiting disadvantaged families and pledging the donation of gift packs. The Campaign is organised by HSBC and the Agency for Volunteer Service running from December 2009 to April 2010.

HSBC, in addition to funding support, has engaged our employees and corporate clients to support. The Bank was honoured the Caring Corporate Award in recognition of the Bank's effort in mobilising the highest number of employees and their family members to support the Campaign.

Under the theme of 'Volunteer to create a community in harmony', this year's Campaign successfully mobilised underprivileged individuals, including ethnic minorities and new-arrival families, to serve the community with volunteers from all walks of life.

Campaign highlights

  • Over 20,000 volunteers (including over 800 HSBC colleagues)
  • Over 400 non-profit organisations
  • Over 30,000 beneficiaries, including low-income families, ethnic minorities, new immigrants, the elderly, and the intellectually and physically disabled.

HSBC has been a staunch supporter of community investment and social integration. It is very encouraging to see the success of this year's HSBC Share-to-Care Volunteer Campaign with its scale largest ever since and record-breaking number in volunteers, organisations and beneficiaries. HSBC has also mobilised over 800 bank employees and their families to support the Campaign through home visits and pledging the donation of gift packs.

Head of Corporate Sustainability Asia Pacific Region

"The experience is wonderful and rewarding. Initially, I had worried about differences in age and silence in conversation. But the elderly had many interesting stories to tell, and the conversations just flowed freely. Some of them even gave us healthy tips."

Tammy Ma, HSBC Volunteer

"I and my wife live on our own. I very much appreciate volunteers' visits even they were there for a short while only."

Mr Ng, a beneficiary aged 70+

Community Investment projects

As part of the community, HSBC should make contributions to its development and promote a diversified and inclusive culture. The HSBC Share-to-Care Volunteer Campaign provides a platform to enable the public to participate in volunteering, giving our care and support to the disadvantaged.
