Waste management

From reducing disposable cups and bags to recycling cardboard boxes and cooking oil, HSBC is doing everything it can to reduce the amount of waste it produces.

The GoMixer is an organic waste disposal system installed at the head office building. The equipment can handle 100kg of organic waste a day.

From February to December 2006, over 24 tonnes of kitchen waste was reduced, resulting in a reduction of 25.8% of wet garbage compared with the same period in 2005.

  • Donate unconsumed food to the needy through organisations such as St James' Settlement.
  • Collect carton boxes for reuse to reduce cardboard packaging waste. In 2006, we achieved a 3.6% reduction in the amount of disposed cardboard packaging compared with 2005.
  • Work with suppliers to collect waste cooking oil and transform it into green lubricant.
