Why?

To help drive the reduction of paper consumption in order to protect the environment and contribute to the sustainable development of Hong Kong.

Who and what accounts will be affected?

Paper Statement Service Annual Fee will be charged by phases starting 2011. With effect from 1 January 2011, Personal Banking HK Dollar Current account or SuperEase account customers who continue to receive paper statements* will incur a HK$20 annual fee for each account.

[Grace Period for 2011]

A grace period has been granted to HK Dollar Current account and SuperEase account customers until 31 Mar 2012. If customers register for eStatement and eAdvice service and remain valid on 31 Mar 2012, the annual paper statement service fee for 2011 will be waived.

How and when will the fee be imposed?

The fee will be directly debited from each relevant account in the first quarter of the following year.

What will the collected fees be used for?

Relevant fees will be donated to various non-profit making organisations to support the continued development of the local community.

* The fee will be imposed to each relevant account if more than 2 paper statements are generated per each affected account in a full calendar year.
