Q1: Why should I enter the Young Financial Planner Competition?

Answer: This competition offers you an excellent opportunity to practise your financial planning skills, apply common sense and develop problem-solving and analytical skills. You will also acquire practical knowledge through a series of training programmes hosted by HSBC and HKIEd. You may also be able to meet some of the most successful and influential people in the business world.

Q2: Who can enter the competition?

Answer: All full-time students (Forms 4 to 6) from local secondary schools are eligible to enter the competition. Students have to form a team of two to four people. The team members must be from the same school and each school must provide a teacher-in-charge.

Q3: What is the competition entry fee?

Answer: There is no entry fee. However, all competitors will have to cover their own expenses in preparing for the competition.

Q4: Do I need to be nominated by my school before registering for the competition?

Answer: Nomination is not required but competitors must submit their registration through their teacher-in-charge.

Q5: How do I register?

Answer: We accept completed registration forms via mail, email or fax. A registration form is printed on the leaflet and can also be downloaded from the HSBC Living Finance website: www.hsbc.com.hk/livingfinance.

Q6: How will I know if you have received my registration form?

Answer: We will send an acknowledgement receipt to your school once your registration form is received.

Q7: Can I change team members after registration?

Answer: No, once you have submitted your application form, no changes to the team will be accepted. You are advised to check your completed application form carefully before sending it.

Q8: If a team member withdraws during the competition, will the team be allowed to continue with the competition?

Answer: Yes, as long as the team still consists of more than one member the team is still eligible to compete. If the team wishes to replace the missing team member, a written request demonstrating sound reasons and justification must be submitted to the Organising Committee of the Competition. Replacement of a team member will require the Organising Committee's written consent.

Q9: Can I participate in more than one team?

Answer: No. A competitor cannot be a member of more than one team.

Q10: Can my team tackle more than one case?

Answer: Each team is allowed to choose only one case.

Q11: Can my team give more than one solution to a case?

Answer: No. One team can submit only one solution.

Q12: Do I have to attend the training workshops arranged by the organiser? Will I be disqualified if I cannot attend all or any of them?

Answer: No, it is not compulsory for you to attend the training workshops and you will not be disqualified for not attending any of them. However, you will miss out on learning the basic requirements for the competition: financial planning knowledge, rules and regulations, judging criteria, useful tips and presentation techniques. It is recommended that at least one team member should always be present.

Q13: What should I do if I/my team members cannot attend round two or round three due to unforeseen circumstances such as illness?

Answer: Unless the whole team withdraws, other team members are allowed to continue with the competition. If the team wishes to replace a team member with another student, a written request with sound reasons and justification must be submitted to the Organising Committee. Replacing a team member will require written consent from the Organising Committee.

Q14: What is the 'Experience HSBC' learning programme all about?

Answer: 'Experience HSBC' is a tailor-made development programme which consists of training workshops, corporate visits and job attachments to provide students with an opportunity to acquire business knowledge, a better understanding of the banking industry and skills in career planning.
