Security Tips when using:

Internet Banking

  • Install anti-virus software and update it with latest virus definition files
  • Logon internet banking regularly to check for unusual transaction records. Report to us immediately if any
  • HSBC will not display your personal information in emails or ask you to confirm any personal data by replying emails.

Mobile Banking

  • Avoid sharing your mobile handsets with others and use your own handset to log on
  • Do not leave your handset unattended after logon to Internet Banking. Always log off properly when you are finished with it
  • When using Wi-Fi connection, use trusted Wi-Fi networks or service providers and enable security protection such as Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA), if possible

Express Banking

  • Cover the keypad when you enter your PIN in ATMs
  • Never disclose your PIN to anyone, not even someone claiming to be from the bank or the police
  • Be cautious and report to the bank if you observe any suspicious devices when using ATM (e.g. Pin hole camera)

Telephone

  • Never read out your password or PIN over the phone, not even to HSBC staff
  • Remember that Phone PIN verification is not required when you make general enquiries
  • Phone PIN verification is only required when you agree to apply for products by inputting them directly into the voice response system

Credit Card

  • Do not respond to emails that ask you to provide credit card information and report to us at once
  • Check your card expiry date. If a replacement card has not arrived at least one week before your current card expires, contact the bank
  • Avoid entering credit card information when using public computers, such as those in internet cafes.
