You receive an email or letter stating that you have won a prize in a lottery. You simply have to respond to the letter, and provide your personal information and credit card details, to receive your prize.

Fact

By responding to the email or letter, you are disclosing personal information and card details that can be used by a fraudster. You may find transactions that you did not authorize on your statement. You may also become a victim of identity fraud.

Tips

Never give out confidential information by either email or letter unless you are absolutely sure about the other party’s identity and reputation.
