Overview of PIN-protected Security Device:

The new PIN-protected Security Device (shown on the left) provides you with an enhanced level of security with a PIN lock which minimizes the chance of unauthorized use and protect you against possible online threats.

How to request for a Security Device?

  1. Click 'Service Requests' from the left hand navigation menu.
  2. And then click 'Replacement of Security Device' under Internet Banking Services.
  3. Press 'Confirm' button to confirm the request.
  4. Please enter a 6-digit Security Code for verification (from your existing Security Device).
  5. You will then see the Acknowledgement message for successful request.

How to setup PIN for the Security Device?

For first time setup

  1. Press and hold the bottom right  for 2 seconds to turn on the Device.
  2. Enter a new 4- to 6-digit PIN at your choice using the keypad.
  3. Press the bottom left   to complete the first PIN entry.
  4. Confirm the new PIN by re-entering it by following the on-screen instructions.
  5. "NEW PIN CONF" will be displayed for 2 seconds if the PIN is successfully inputted. "HSBC" will be displayed afterwards.

How to setup PIN for the Security Device?

For change PIN

  1. Press and hold  for 2 seconds to turn on your Security Device.
  2. Press and hold the "8" button for 2 seconds to activate the change PIN function.
  3. Enter a new 4- to 6-digit PIN at your choice using the keypad.
  4. Press the bottom left   to complete the first PIN entry.
  5. Confirm the new PIN by re-entering it by following the on-screen instructions.
  6. "NEW PIN CONF" will be displayed for 2 seconds if the PIN is successfully inputted. "HSBC" will be displayed afterwards.

  • Paper Form: You may complete the 'HSBC Internet Banking Maintenance / Cancellation Request Form' and return it to us for processing. Your request will normally be processed within 3 working days (excluding Saturday, Sunday and public holiday) upon receipt of your form.

How to activate the Security Device?

For new Security Device user

  1. Click on the 'activation link' at MyHSBC after logon Internet Banking.
  2. Enter the last 3-digit of your registered mobile phone number. (Please ensure that your registered mobile phone number is updated.)
  3. Enter the serial number at the back of the new Security Device.
  4. Press and hold   for 2 seconds to turn on your Security Device. Then enter your Security Device PIN.
  5. Press   to obtain the 6-digit Security Code.

How to activate the Security Device?

For Security Device replacement user

  1. Click on the 'activation link' at MyHSBC after logon Internet Banking.
  2. Enter the serial number at the back of the new Security Device.
  3. Press   to obtain the 6-digit Security Code.
  4. Press   to obtain another 6-digit Security Code from your OLD Security Device to confirm.

How to generate the Security Code?

  1. Press and hold  for 2 seconds to turn on your Security Device. Then enter your Security Device PIN.

How to make a 3rd party transfer?

To make a 3rd party transfer, you are required to generate a Security Code at 'Verification' screen after you have input all tranfer details.

Dual-password logon mode

  • Enter Username + Password + Second Password (3 random characters).
  • Example for Second Password (3 random characters):
    If your Second Password is Ab12Cd34 and you are asked to fill in the 4th, 6th and last characters, please fill in '2' , 'd' & '4' in the input boxes.

Register Dual-password logon mode

  1. After logon Internet Banking, choose "Service Requests" from the left hand navigation menu.
  2. Then click 'Second Password Set-up for Dual-password Logon' under Internet Banking Services.
  3. Set-up the second password by completing the form.
  4. Acknowledgement message will be displayed for successful set-up.

New PIN

  1. When setting up your device, press  to create your PIN.
  2. After you've entered your PIN, press  to generate a transaction code for authorising new payments.
  3. Press and hold  for 2 seconds to turn on the device.
  4. Press  once to delete one character.
  5. Press and hold  to clear all input.
  6. After you've entered your PIN, press  to generate a log on security code.

Fail PIN

For the PIN setup, if the two entries of the PIN are not match, this message will be shown.

  1. Press either the  or  to return to the PIN setup
  2. Input a new PIN again twice and ensure both entries are matched.

PIN not safe

  • An unsecure PIN which made up of sequential or repeated numbers such as 123456 or 111111
  • If you enter a PIN and the message "not SAFE" is displayed you will need to choose another PIN. The Security Device will automatically return to the PIN set up screen.

Fail 1,2 or 3

  • If you enter an incorrect PIN, you will see the message 'FAIL 1'. Press the  to enter your PIN again.
  • You will have three attempts to enter your PIN correctly. Even when you next turn it on, your device will remember the number of failed attempts you have made.
  • After the third incorrect attempt ('FAIL 3'), the device will become locked. Please click on the "Lock PIN" to find out more.

Lock PIN

  • If your device is locked, it will display a seven-digit code on screen whenever it is turned on. This is called a 'Lock PIN code'.
  • You can reset your PIN online by entering your username at log on and choosing "Security Device" logo mode. Choose "Learn more", continuing to the next screen and selecting the “Forgotten your Security Device PIN?” link.
  • You'll be asked to enter the 'Lock PIN code' before being given a 'PIN reset code'.
  • Enter the 'PIN reset code' into your Security Device then press the  to reset your PIN.

Reset PIN

  • If you enter an incorrect 'PIN reset code', a 'FAIL 1' message will be displayed.
  • If three incorrect PIN reset codes are entered, the device will be frozen with the 'FAIL 3' message displayed.
  • Please contact our 24-hour Customer Service Hotline if this happens.

Button

  • This message indicates that a button is being pressed and held for too long.
  • If you press and hold a button for more than 7 seconds, the device will switch off to preserve battery life.

Battery

  • This is the low battery message.
  • After its first appearance, the bAtt message is displayed for two seconds each time when the device is switched on. After two seconds, the device works as normal.
    bAtt 5: 5 weeks remaining
    bAtt 4: 4 weeks remaining
    bAtt 3: 3 weeks remaining
    bAtt 2: 2 weeks remaining
    bAtt 1: 1 weeks remaining
    bAtt 0: replacement needed
  • Please logon Personal Internet Banking to arrange for a replacement device.

When you need to create a new Security Device PIN. Think of a PIN with 4 to 6 digits, avoid using sequential or repeated numbers such as 1234 or 1111. Enter the PIN in the Security Device and press the yellow button to generate a transaction code for authorizing new payments.

Note: If you make a mistake entering your PIN, you can use the green button to delete the last digit you have input.

The PIN you are setting up needs to be confirmed. Re-enter the PIN into the Security Device.

You have successfully set-up your PIN. You can now use your Security Device to generate a security code.

Your confirmation PIN did not match the first PIN entered. Press the yellow button and repeat the steps to set up a PIN.
