Security and Fraud

Be careful of bogus phone calls or SMS

We've noticed that recently there are fraudulent telephone calls, voice messages, emails, or communications in other formats that claim to be from HSBC. We would like to alert customers:

  • HSBC does not engage intermediaries to solicit personal loan / tax loan / credit card applications,
  • Please do NOT provide any sensitive personal information to any suspicious third party,
  • Verify the caller's identity with the bank by marking down the third party's contact information, or
  • Use 'Scameter+' from the Hong Kong Police Force to assess the risk of fraud and cyber security.

If you've disclosed your personal details, please contact us on (852) 2233 3000 and report to the police immediately. You can also call us to verify the caller's identity if in doubt.

Investment Order Confirmation via SMS

To further improve HSBC's internet banking service, we will send out notifications in SMS to confirm investment orders placed by customers who have not subscribed to this free eAlert service. Please could you update your mobile phone number to enable this service. If you find any of these orders suspicious, please contact our customer service hotline.

We remind customers to exercise caution when using internet banking, such as customers should select PINs that cannot be easily guessed by anyone, use different PINs for different websites, never access hyperlinks embedded in emails for internet banking services, validate any suspicious emails or callswhen making payments to third parties and not use public computer and public Wi-Fi to access sensitive information.
