1"Security Device" can also be referred as "Security Device/Mobile Security Key" when it is used for generating security code on HSBC Internet Banking or HSBC Mobile Banking functions.

How to request for a PIN-Protected Security Device?

Apply for a security device now by logging on to Personal Internet Banking and placing a request through the Service Requests menu.

    How do I request for a new or replacement Security Device?

    1. Log on to Personal Internet Banking through the dual-password mode or can also use your existing Security Device if apply for replacement.
    2. Click 'Service Requests' from the left hand navigation menu and select ‘Apply for Security Device' for new or "Replacement of Security Device" for replacement under Internet Banking Services.
    3. Press the 'Confirm' button to confirm the request. For replacement, enter a 6-digit Security Code for verification from your existing Security Device and press the 'Confirm' button again to complete the request.
    4. You will then see the Acknowledgement message for successful request.

    Your new device will be mailed to you within the next 3 working days (postal lead-time is not included). Please follow the instructions to activate your new device upon receipt.

    How do I set up a PIN for the first time?

    1. Press and hold the bottom right Green Button Bottom Right for 2 seconds to turn on the device.
    2. Enter a new 4 to 6 digit PIN at your choice using the keypad.
    3. Press the bottom left Yellow Button Bottom Left to complete the first PIN entry.
    4. Follow the on-screen instructions and confirm the new PIN by re-entering it.
    5. "NEW PIN CONF" will be displayed for 2 seconds if the PIN input is successful and "HSBC" will be displayed after that.

    How do I change my existing PIN?

    1. Press and hold Green Button Bottom Right for 2 seconds to turn on your Security Device.
    2. Press and hold the "8" button for 2 seconds to activate the change PIN function.
    3. Enter a new 4 to 6 digit PIN of your choice using the keypad.
    4. Press the bottom left Yellow Button Bottom Left to complete the first PIN entry.
    5. Follow the on-screen instructions and confirm the new PIN by re-entering it.
    6. "NEW PIN CONF" will be displayed for 2 seconds if the PIN input is successful and "HSBC" will be displayed after that.

    How do I activate my new Security Device?

    1. Log on to Personal Internet Banking and click on the activation link at MyHSBC.
    2. Enter the last 3 digits of your registered mobile phone number. (Please ensure that your registered mobile phone number is updated.)
    3. Enter the serial number printed on the back of your new Security Device.
    4. Press and hold Green Button Bottom Right for 2 seconds to turn on your Security Device. Then enter your Security Device PIN.
    5. Press Green Button Bottom Right to obtain the 6-digit Security Code.

    You can also activate your new Security Device through these channels :

    Phone Banking: You may activate the new Security Device via hotline instantly (Phone Banking Service PIN verification is required).

    Paper Form: You can complete the 'HSBC Internet Banking Maintenance / Cancellation Request Form' and return it to us for processing. Your request will normally be processed within 3 working days (excluding Saturday, Sunday and public holidays) upon receipt of your form.

    How do I activate my replacement Security Device?

    1. Log on to Personal Internet Banking and click on the ‘activation link’ at MyHSBC.
    2. Enter the serial number printed on the back of -your new Security Device.
    3. Press Green Button Bottom Right to obtain the 6-digit Security Code.
    4. Press Green Button Bottom Right to obtain another 6-digit Security Code from your OLD Security Device to confirm.

    You can also activate your replacement Security Device through these channels:

    1. Press and hold Buttons_Green for 2 seconds to turn on your Security Device and then, enter your Security Device PIN.
    2. Press Green Button Bottom Right to obtain the 6-digit Security Code.

How do I make a 3rd party transfer?

To make a 3rd party transfer, you are required to generate and input a Security Code at the 'Verification' screen after you have entered all the transfer details.

  1. Press and hold Green Button Bottom Right for 2 seconds to turn on your Security Device and then enter your Security Device PIN.
  2. Press Yellow Button Bottom Left on your Security Device, until you see '-'.
  3. See how to enter the last 8 digits of your "Beneficiary account number" into the device
    To delete your input, please use Green Button Bottom Right.
  4. Press Yellow Button Bottom Left and a 6-digit Security Code will appear for you to input on the ‘Verification’ screen.

Upon receipt of the new Security Device, you are required to set up your PIN and activate it immediately or within 30 days from the issue date of the letter enclosed with your new Security Device. Otherwise, you will not be able to log on to HSBC Personal Internet Banking.

The new device requires customer to input information specific to the transaction (e.g. account number) into the device to generate a Security Code. With this transaction signing function, the transfer will only be made to the account specified by the customer.
