We’ll pay you daily cash payments on top of your existing medical insurance benefits under other insurance plans that you are free to use for any purpose. You’ll also pay lower premiums the younger you take out your policy.

    What’s included?

    Flexible cash plans to suit your needs

    Get cash benefits ranging from HKD500 to HKD2,000 per dayfootnote1. Select the plan that suits your needs and matches your budget. You can continue to receive cash benefits for as long as 750 days, or up to HKD1.5 million per illness or accident.

    Receive double benefits

    In some cases we’ll pay double benefits – up to HKD4,000 per day – if you are hospitalised:

    • outside the Hong Kong/Macau SAR, or mainland China
    • for a major organ transplant, including bone marrow transplant
    • with your insured spouse as a result of the same accident
    • for treatment requiring an intensive care unit

    We’ll pay these for up to 750 days or up to 90 days for a stay in an intensive care unit.

    No claims cash bonus

    HospitalSurance doesn’t just pay when you need hospital treatment – it also pays if you stay healthy. If you don’t make a claim for 5 consecutive years, we’ll refund 30% of the premiums you paid over those 5 years in cash.

    Surgical allowance benefit

    If you need an operation while you’re in hospital, we’ll reimburse surgical expenses such as surgeon, anaesthetist and operating theatre fees. We’ll cover you up to 10 times your daily cash benefit limit per illness or accident.

    We can’t cover stays in hospital for:

    • Pre-existing conditions and congenital abnormalities
    • Dental and optical treatment
    • Pregnancy and fertility or infertility treatment
    • Cosmetic surgery, prosthetic appliances and routine medical examinations
    • Drug addiction, alcoholism, sexually transmitted diseases, and HIV if diagnosed within 5 years from the start of your cover
    • Diagnostic scanning, X-ray examinations or physical therapy
    • War and insurrection, dangerous sports and activities

    Lower premiums locked in at an earlier age

    Buying cover when you’re younger means you’ll pay lower premiums. HospitalSurance premium is based on your age at entry. Your HospitalSurance Insurance policy will be automatically renewed until your 65th birthday.

    Free cover for additional children

    One fixed premium for all children. Additional children are automatically covered by our hospital insurance plan when they reach the age of 6 months, at no extra cost.

    To be able to apply you must be:

    • aged between 18 to 59
    • HSBC credit card or account holder

    We also accept family enrolments. Family members include:

    • a spouse aged 18 to 59
    • Unmarried dependent children aged six months to 21 years, or until the age of 23 if they are full-time students at an accredited school or college

    Family discount:

    • A 10% family discount on premiums will be offered for family enrolments. Your partner3 can also enjoy a 10% family discount if insured under a separate HospitalSurance policy.

    3Partner means someone with whom the insured person lives in a relationship equivalent to marriage, whether of the same or opposite gender.

Make a claim

Sometimes life doesn’t go according to plan and you’ll want to make an insurance claim as soon as possible.

Express Claims Approval Service for any qualified case for claim amount below HKD5,000 will be processed immediately and claims payment will be approved within 2 working days upon receipt of all required documents as may be required by AXA General Insurance Hong Kong Limited (AXA). Should further information be required, AXA will send a follow up letter to the claimant within 5 working days.

Pre-existing conditions are commonly excluded in medical and hospitalisation policies because it is not the insurer's intention to cover the cost of an existing condition. Therefore, it is usual to exclude injuries or sicknesses which occur, exist, commence or present signs or symptoms before the commencement of the policy coverage. The definition of pre-existing condition is defined in the policy document. Please refer to the policy for details.

The sickness listed as exclusions are mostly common chronic illnesses which normally require a development period ranging from six months to one year. Some diseases require a longer range of development cycle to develop symptoms than others. In general, those illnesses excluded during the first year are believed to have a longer development period (e.g. Tumours of internal organs).

Medical insurance normally has a term "waiting period" which means no coverage on any illnesses will be offered during that period. To provide you with instant protection, our HospitalSurance does not have waiting period. However, for illnesses that are identified as exclusion at the inception of policy will not be covered at any time within the policy period.

The plan aims to cover those who are hospitalised due to sickness or injuries and therefore treatment must be involved.

If your surgical expenses have been fully reimbursed by a third party, you will not receive further reimbursement from HospitalSurance under surgical benefit. However, you are still entitled to daily hospital cash benefit if you are hospitalised due to a covered medical condition.

Applying for HospitalSurance is simple and easy. You are not required to have medical check-up which means you are free from any additional medical check-up fee.

If you have not made a claim for five consecutive years, you will receive a cash refund of 30% of the premiums you have paid. This refund will be credited automatically to the account which you have used to pay your premiums.
